Roman Holiday, probably, or Breakfast at Tiffany's. I love Audrey - she's not my one true favourite actress anymore, perhaps, but she is the classic actress I loved first, I think she's wonderful. It does make me sad that such a lot of people these days pretty much only know her for her pretty face - she was so much more than just that.
I am SO in love with her. I'd have to say "Breakfast at Tiffany's" but then I think "Sabrina" or maybe "Roman Holiday", even "Robin & Marian." If I had to choose one, probably "Tiffanys"...
Did you know that Capote actually wrote that novel inspired by Marilyn Monroe, who he was good friends with? He actually wanted her to play the lead, but her studio advised against it and she was at work on other films at the time... Crazy to imagine someone else in that role isn't it?
I'm going to go with Sabrina. Everyone in that movie's playing the wrong part, and somehow, it works.
On a side note...My girlfriend forced me to watch Funny Face. Now, to prevent being chased by villagers with torches and pointy sticks, I have to say I didn't like it, but let me explain. And then follow up.
Fred (One of my favorites! Truly...Watch A Damsel In Distress and dislike him...Try it!) was just a little too old to be in the movie, I thought. Unfortunately, it made the result a little too much like watching your favorite dog catch arthritis and try to chase a car. I know that's a horrible analogy, but, apt, I think.
On the follow up...After I saw it, I couldn't get it out of my head. For days afterwards, I kept thinking about the picture setups and the dance in front of the church. I think that's the point of the movie. It just sticks on you until you like it...And that's what happened to me.
I don't know what to choose.. because I like Charade, My Fair Lady, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Love in the Afternoon, Roman Holiday - all of them are lovely!
I gotta tell you, I barely made it through Breakfast At Tiffany's. Overt racism not withstanding. I just didn't get the fuss. I think it's the "Scarlett' issue all over again.
Lemme add Paris When it Sizzles she parodies her own movies beautifully and has a good chemistry with William Holden. Oh and How to Steal a Million cuzz oToole and Audrey are so good the plot becomes secondary.
I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and say it's a close race between Roman Holiday and Breakfast at Tiffany's. Yes, I know there are some very troubling issues with BAT, namely Mickey Rooney's racist caricature, but it was the first Audrey Hepburn movie I saw and loved. It will always hold a special place in my heart, namely because Audrey is so naturally charming and vulnerable as Holly Golightly, that I'll never get sick of it.
Also, I recently saw Two for the Road and really loved it.
As for Funny Face, I have it, yet it's not on the top of my list. I think it's because Fred Astaire seems a bit too old for the role and the fact that he's cast as Audrey's love interest always left me a bit uncomfortable. However, the movie is worth owning for all of the outfits! And you get to see Audrey show off her dancing skills.
